Heritage Breed Guinea Hog, Whole Hog Reservation

Heritage Breed Guinea Hog, Whole Hog Reservation

Why Choose Our Pork?

Our pigs are raised on our small farm by our family - they are loved and well cared for in an environment that is rare to find, even in this area rich with small homesteads. Our pigs are not confined to runs or standing much of their day on concrete with little room to explore. Instead, they spend their days foraging in our forests + pastures, rotating as needed, and feeding on a variety of nuts, grasses, roots, grubs, and when needed a local non GMO feed. We do not inject our pigs with anything and feel pride and confidence around the way we run our very small, pretty amazing breeding program. Our pigs are BFF with Dogfish Head Brewery and currently have a supplemental diet of puffed amaranth which is high in protein, fiber, and antioxidants. We are diligent about their care, and many of you have been here and seen them happily snorfling away in their pastures. We love being able to offer a superior pork that you can feel proud to feed your family.

DETAILS ABOUT ORDERING

When you reserve a Whole Hog, you are reserving your own pig which will be grown out by us until it's time to process. This allows you to pick and choose your cuts when it's time, and fill your freezer with ethically raised meat. Once we get closer to processing, which will be Early Fall, we will reach out to each customer and walk them through every step of filling out the cut sheet. Then when your pork is ready - by late September, you can bring a few coolers to the farm ((it will have been freshly frozen)) and we can help you load it up and take it home. We can also deliver for a fee.

COST

$8/lb hanging weight. Average hanging weight of our pigs at time of processing is between 100-120lbs. Yield from this is approximately 70-75% and approximate cost at these figures is $880. If you choose cured meats when filling out your custom cut sheet there will be an additional $150 added. The number of packaged cuts will be around 77 - 82 lbs and will vary based on cut selection and carcass size. Remaining payment due at time of pickup.

A note about the weight of our pigs :: We intentionally raise pigs to this size as we don't personally believe bigger is always better. The meat is tender and full of flavor, and we find that the whole whole yield from this weight is a great balance between variety of cuts as well as being manageable for most homes. If you're worried you won't be able to eat it all or store it all we always suggest going halvsies with a friend or another family member!
